Plein air landscapes and psychedelic doodles in watercolor
About the Artist
Hi! My name is Henry Atkinson and I live and work in Montrose, Colorado.
My paintings are done in the spirit of the pocket microscope I used to take on family camping trips. When I looked at anything close enough, leaves or pond water or insect wings, the microscope turned them into abstract forms. As I zoomed in, the color and form of a thing grew in power as I lost my ability to name what I was seeing. The immense number of details the world was made up from was overwhelming. I try to give my paintings a sense of things moving and growing together without a plan or a center, and I use watercolor for its fluidity and transparency.
